Power-Off Stalls

ACS task objective

To determine the applicant exhibits satisfactory knowledge, risk management, and skills associated with power-off stalls. Note: See Appendix 2: Safety of Flight and Appendix 3: Aircraft, Equipment, and Operational Requirements & Limitations for information related to this Task.

Bottom line

A stall is the result of exceeding the wing's critical angle of attack, not of insufficient airspeed. It is possible to stall the wing at any airspeed, at any flight attitude, and at any power setting. When the airplane reaches the stall warning, recovery is accomplished by first reducing the angle of attack until the stall warning is eliminated.
