Powerplant Failure (Simulated) (ASEL, ASES)

ACS task objective

To determine the applicant exhibits satisfactory knowledge, risk management, and skills associated with powerplant failure and associated emergency approach and landing procedures. Note: See Appendix 2: Safety of Flight and Appendix 3: Aircraft, Equipment, and Operational Requirements & Limitations for information related to this Task.

Bottom line

Certain immediate action items (such as a response to an engine failure in a critical phase of flight) are best committed to memory. After they are accomplished, and as work load permits, the pilot can compare the action taken with a checklist.
