A Founder's Message

Why I built FlyCurrent

I'm a surgeon and a pilot. Those two worlds taught me opposite lessons about staying sharp.

In medicine, currency is engineered. We drill, we're tested, we re-certify, and we're measured constantly — because a gap in what you remember can cost someone their life. In aviation, the day you pass the checkride is the day your knowledge starts to fade — and almost nothing measures it. Your flight review every two years checks how you fly. It barely touches the depth of what you know.

The research has been clear for forty years: aeronautical knowledge decays within months, faster than any of us believe, and pilots are poor judges of what they've lost. The forgetting curve doesn't care how good your checkride was. It just runs.

I kept watching sharp, conscientious pilots — good people — quietly forget the things that keep them alive. Not because they were lazy, but because nothing in their training was built to fight forgetting. So I built it.

FlyCurrent measures what you actually remember and keeps it from fading. The FlyCurrent Score turns your knowledge currency into a single number you can see and act on. Underneath it, a spaced-repetition engine resurfaces your weak spots at exactly the moment you're about to forget them — across the ACS, your own aircraft, and the emergency procedures you hope you never need.

We build it alongside an expert board of instructors and senior aviators who vet every piece of it, and we publish the reasoning behind our approach in FlyCurrent Insights. This isn't a test-prep app you use once and forget. It's a way to stay current for the length of your flying life.

Stay current. Stay sharp.
