Appropriate airplane configuration.
Appropriate airplane configuration.
Bottom line
Configuration changes affect climb performance because they affect excess thrust and power. Lowering the landing gear or lowering the flaps decreases both excess thrust and excess power for all aircraft. In the absence of specific short-field procedures, the airplane should be operated as recommended in the AFM/POH.
Key numbers
| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| Full flaps for the steepest approach angle | Flaps on short-field |
| Retract from full to an intermediate position with sufficient airspeed | Go-around flaps |
