Configuring the airplane.
Configuring the airplane.
Bottom line
In general, emergency descent procedures are high drag, high airspeed procedures requiring a specific airplane configuration and a specific emergency descent airspeed. In an emergency descent, the pilot should not allow the airplane's airspeed to pass VNE, VLE, or VFE, as applicable. Some airplanes have a specific procedure for rapidly losing altitude, and the AFM/POH specifies the procedure.
