Determining holding endurance based upon factors, including an expect further clearance (EFC) time, fuel on board, fuel flow while holding, fuel required to destination and alternate, etc., as appropriate.
Bottom line
The ATC system may require route changes or holding, which may require more fuel than expected. If the clearance limit is not a fix from which an approach begins, leave the clearance limit at the expect-further-clearance time if one has been received.
Key numbers
| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| 1430 (example EFC time in an ATC holding instruction) | EFC example |
| 4 hours 30 minutes endurance for a leg that should take 3 hours and 15 minutes | Endurance margin |
