Wisk Aero Flies Second Gen 6 Autonomous eVTOL Prototype
Wisk is pursuing full autonomy as its certification baseline rather than a piloted aircraft with autonomy bolted on. The dual-aircraft phase accelerates envelope expansion into the hover-to-wingborne transition, the riskiest part of eVTOL testing.
Wisk Aero, the Boeing-owned autonomous air-taxi developer, flew its second Generation 6 eVTOL prototype (N607WA) at Hollister Airport, California, on May 4, 2026, bringing its active FAA type-certification test fleet to two aircraft. The maiden sortie included vertical takeoff, hover, and chirp maneuvers; the first Gen 6 aircraft flew December 16, 2025. A second airframe lets Wisk run parallel rather than serial test campaigns — significant for certifying an autonomous four-passenger vehicle with no onboard flight controls. Wisk has logged more than 1,750 test flights across five previous generations and is partnered with TxDOT under the FAA's eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, targeting Houston, with service entry targeted for 2030.
