ACS element text (the applicant demonstrates understanding of)

Collision hazards.

Bottom line

A collision hazard is a condition, event, or circumstance that could induce an occurrence of a collision or surface accident or incident. The vast majority of midair collision accidents occurred at or near nontowered airports and at altitudes below 1,000 feet. Effective scanning uses a series of short, regularly spaced eye movements, each not exceeding 10° and observed for at least 1 second to enable detection.
