Communication.
Communication.
Bottom line
Communications is one of the three major areas contributing to runway incursions, along with airport knowledge and flight deck procedures for maintaining orientation. At a nontowered airport, two-way radio communications are not required, but it is a good operating practice to transmit intentions on the specified frequency for the benefit of other traffic in the area. If you have reason to believe your receiver is inoperative, remain outside or above the Class D surface area until the direction and flow of traffic has been determined.
