Prescribed circling approach procedures.
Prescribed circling approach procedures.
Bottom line
Published circling minimums provide obstacle clearance when pilots remain within the appropriate area of protection. If an identifiable part of the airport is not distinctly visible during a circling maneuver at or above MDA, the pilot must execute a missed approach, unless the loss of visibility results only from a normal bank. An aircraft that falls into category A but is circling to land at a speed in excess of 91 knots should use approach category B minimums when circling to land.
