Correctly copy, read back, interpret, and comply with simulated or actual ATC clearances in a timely manner using standard phraseology as provided in the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM).
Bottom line
It is recommended that pilots read their IFR clearance back to the clearance delivery controller. When a pilot is uncertain of an ATC clearance, that pilot shall immediately request clarification from ATC. When an ATC clearance has been obtained, no pilot in command may deviate from that clearance unless an amended clearance is obtained, an emergency exists, or the deviation is in response to a TCAS resolution advisory.
