Distractions, interruptions, fixation, and inattention.
Distractions, interruptions, fixation, and inattention.
Bottom line
A distraction is an unexpected event that momentarily diverts the learner's attention, while an interruption is an unexpected event for which the learner voluntarily suspends one task to complete a different one. Fixation occurs when a learner becomes absorbed in one task to the exclusion of other tasks, and it is often a sign that the task has not received enough practice in isolation. Inattention occurs when a learner fails to pay attention to an important task, and it is sometimes a natural by-product of fixation.
