ACS element text (the applicant demonstrates understanding of)

Select and aim for a suitable touchdown point considering the wind conditions, landing surface, and obstructions.

Bottom line

The short-field approach and landing is an accuracy approach to an aiming point. Seaplanes can be landed either power-off or power-on, but power-on landings are generally preferred because they give the pilot more positive control of the rate of sink and the touchdown spot. If it appears that the obstacle clearance is excessive and touchdown occurs well beyond the desired aiming point, leaving insufficient room to stop, power is reduced while lowering the pitch attitude to steepen the descent path and increase the rate of descent.
