Select and activate appropriate frequencies.
Select and activate appropriate frequencies.
Bottom line
The key to communicating at an airport without an operating control tower is selection of the correct common frequency. A CTAF is a frequency designated for the purpose of carrying out airport advisory practices while operating to or from an airport without an operating control tower. If departing from an airport without an operating control tower, the pilot should listen on the appropriate frequency, make a careful check for traffic, and transmit a radio advisory before entering the runway.
