h. Pitot-static, vacuum/pressure, and associated flight instruments
Airplane systems, including: h. Pitot-static, vacuum/pressure, and associated flight instruments
Bottom line
The pitot-static system uses static air pressure and dynamic pressure to operate the airspeed indicator, altimeter, and vertical speed indicator. Only the ASI uses the pitot tube; the altimeter and VSI use only static pressure from the static port. Blockage of the pitot-static system adversely affects instrument operation.
Key numbers
| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| 1 instrument (the ASI) uses the pitot tube | Pitot users |
| 2 instruments (altimeter and VSI) use only static pressure | Static users |
