Recovery procedure and minimum recovery altitude for intentional spins.
Recovery procedure and minimum recovery altitude for intentional spins.
Bottom line
If a spin is entered, most manufacturers recommend immediately retarding both throttles to idle, applying full rudder opposite the direction of rotation, and applying full forward elevator/stabilator pressure (with ailerons neutral). Pilots should be aware that a spin recovery will take considerable altitude; therefore, it is critical that corrective action be taken immediately.
Key numbers
| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| about 2.5 Gs in a proper spin recovery | Recovery G |
| slightly above 1 G, varies with each aircraft's spin characteristics | G during spin |
| recovery no lower than 3,000 feet AGL for multiengine airplanes, or higher if recommended by the AFM/POH | Stall practice |
