c. Tailwind
Effects of: c. Tailwind
Bottom line
A tailwind condition can move the vortices of a preceding aircraft forward into the touchdown zone. Pilots should be alert to large aircraft upwind from their approach and takeoff flight paths, because the light quartering tailwind requires maximum caution. Because the vortex hazard may exist along the runway and in the flight path, particularly in a quartering tailwind, it is prudent to wait at least 2 minutes prior to a takeoff or landing.
