h. Pitot-static, vacuum/pressure, and associated flight instruments
Airplane systems, including: h. Pitot-static, vacuum/pressure, and associated flight instruments
Bottom line
The pitot-static system uses static air pressure and dynamic pressure from the aircraft's motion through the air. The pitot-static system supplies the pressure for the airspeed indicator, the vertical speed indicator, and the altimeter. Blockage of the pitot-static system adversely affects instrument operation.
Key numbers
| Number | What it means |
|---|---|
| only instrument using the pitot tube | ASI source |
| altimeter and ASI read high in descent | Blocked static |
| altimeter reads slightly high | Alternate static |
