Wake turbulence.
Wake turbulence.
Bottom line
A pilot landing a small airplane just after a heavy jet departed a parallel runway made a hard landing due to a combination of prevailing winds and wake turbulence from the heavy jet drifting across the landing runway. When accepting instructions to maintain visual separation or to follow another aircraft, a pilot also accepts responsibility for wake turbulence avoidance.
