Selecting a navigation frequency.

ACS element text (the applicant demonstrates understanding of)

Selecting a navigation frequency.

Bottom line

A pilot without adequate training may not anticipate that a change or disruption of the navigation source may reduce the level of automation, and horizontal flight path control may default to wings level mode. If only one identifier is heard about every 30 seconds, the DME is functional, but the associated VOR or LOC is not. You should listen to the station identifier before relying on the instrument for navigation.
