Consider the landing surface, visual attitude references, water depth, and collision hazards and select the proper approach and landing path.
Bottom line
For seaplanes, it is especially important to carefully inspect the landing area for shallow areas, obstructions, or other hazards. Evaluation of the landing area should include approach and departure paths. An approach over a large body of water or an area of thick vegetation tends to create a sinking effect that can cause an unwary pilot to land short of the intended landing spot.
