Consider the landing surface, visual attitude references, water depth, and collision hazards and select the proper approach and landing path.
Bottom line
Wind direction and speed must be weighed along with the surface conditions of the water. When a swell is not aligned with the wind, the pilot must weigh the dangers posed by the swell against limited crosswind capability, as well as pilot experience. Avoid downwind landings on rough water or in strong winds.
