Setting navigation and communication equipment for departure.

ACS element text (the applicant demonstrates understanding of)

Setting navigation and communication equipment for departure.

Bottom line

For a flight in IMC, having only one navigation/communication radio could be considered an "A" hazard. If using GPS for navigation, the pilot should ensure it works properly, all necessary waypoints should be loaded before the flight, and the database should be checked for accuracy prior to taking off and again once in flight. Before departure, the pilot should ensure all routing matches the planned flight route, and if the programmed route does not match the log, should not assume the computer data is correct but double check the computer entry.
