ACS element text (the applicant demonstrates understanding of)

Ensure the ground safety procedures are followed during the before-start, start, and after-start phases.

Bottom line

When starting an engine, the rules of safety and courtesy should be strictly observed. One of the most important safety rules is to ensure no one is near the propeller prior to starting. At a minimum, prepared checklists should be used for the before engine start and engine starting phases of flight.
