Local conditions.
Local conditions.
Bottom line
Under calm wind conditions, the smooth water surface presents a mirror-like appearance from above, which eliminates visual references for the pilot and can be extremely deceptive. Obstructions may exist below the water at a seaplane base and could be affected by tides. During landing area reconnaissance, note the position of any buoys marking preferred channels, hidden dangers, or off-limits areas such as no-wake zones or swimming beaches.
